I don't know where or how to really begin this. The evening I spent in Nashville was really amazing. It was so great to be able to give a big hug to two truly wonderful ladies (Judy and Nell). You're sincere warmth and kindness is appreciated more than you know. If all of Crash's fans are like the two of you, he is truly a blessed individual. Thank you for again making me feel welcome amongst you all.
Judy thank you for taking the time to re-introduce me to Crash. I am humbled that in your introduction you reminded Crash that I was the one who missed the show last year due to a small thing called a 'massive heart attack.' I was speechless when Crash looked up from signing my picture and stuck out his hand saying "I remember you now. You look good. Are you feeling all right ?" It was hard to answer with the lump I had in my throat, but I think I managed to tell Crash I was doing well.
I also managed to get my photo with Crash after the autographs were finished. As I stood chatting with him for a moment, I thanked him for his kindness and asked him about the album "I'm Tore Up." I was curious if he recorded it in Cincinnati (my neck of the woods) back in 1964. The look on his face was priceless. I think he was shocked I had even heard of the album. Before he answered my question, he said "Do you mean.." and began singing the title track. ;D This is what both of our faces looked like. It was a priceless moment only to be capped off by him saying that "yes" he had come to Cincinnati to record that for the King label. A label famous for James Brown (I Feel Good) and the Isley Brothers (Shout). As my wife snapped the picture, he again shook my hand and told me to "take care of my health." I told him to do the same and to be careful on his way way home.
I talked my wife to sleep on the three hour drive home about how this was a night I'll never forget. A Big thank you to Crash, Judy, and Nell. I hope the good Lord allows us to do this again in the near future.
